Despite the warm winter and the early arrival of spring, the weather conditions of 2020 were absolutely unsuitable for growing a good harvest in viticulture. I don’t remember such a bad season in terms of heat accumulation.

April - May were very cold, also in August the temperature fluctuated right up to +5, +7 degrees at night and +10 degrees at daytime.Минимальная температура в зиму 2019-2020 года была - 16 гр.с.  Grapes are not covered for the winter.

Since it was also cold during flowering, many forms and varieties of grapes pollinated very poorly this year. The result is empty bunches and heavy peas.

I continue to monitor the fruiting of seedlings in combination with Amur varieties. Almost all direct hybrids with Amur grapes have a rather small berry, as for table grapes, as well as not high taste characteristics.

For the first time, seedlings bred for seedlessness with raisins (Rusbol, Jupiter, Krasen) as the paternal form. Further testing them in natural conditions and freezing the vines in the freezer will help me decide on the choice of promising forms.

This year I am laying the foundation for a new selection vineyard. The plot for seedlings is broken up and planted initially for the arrangement of an uncovered arched vineyard. The row spacing is 3 meters, the distance between seedlings in a row is 50 cm.

The new plot will be planted with seedlings of 2019-2020. In parent pairs, new frost-resistant table forms of my selection and Amur grape varieties were used. The main two directions of selection: seedlessness (+ frost resistance at the level of -28 gr.s) and high frost resistance of table grapes (-30, -32 gr.s).

Next, I propose to see the fruiting of some interesting forms of grapes in 2020.
