Economic characteristic:

A grape variety of early-medium or medium ripening period. Ripening in the conditions of the Kiev region of Ukraine occurs on September 15-25. The flower is bisexual. The variety is pollinated very well, there are practically no peas in the bunch.

All berries are about the same size. The berries are large, round or oval, black or dark blue, with a thick prune coating, weighing 10 - 12 grams. The pulp is dense, crispy, the juice is not colored. Seeds are medium, 2-3 pieces per berry. When making calculations without normalization, the average weight of 100 berries is 710 grams, the average weight of a bunch is 680 grams.

The taste of berries is harmonious, they have a good balance of sugar and acid, the sugar content of berry juice is 19 - 21%, the acidity is slightly increased, 5.7 g/l. When fully ripe, the berries have a slight aftertaste of blackcurrant.

Coloring of berries in a bunch is almost uniform. When overloaded, the bottom of the bunch is painted weakly. For simultaneous ripening, it is desirable to cut the bottom of long bunches. The clusters are rarely of medium density, most often the clusters are loose, weighing 800 - 1200 grams. Individual bunches up to 1.5-2 kg.

The strength of the growth of the Carbonado grape variety is very large, the yield is high, the fruitfulness is 2 bunches per shoot. The shape of the slope is subject to crop overload, so a well-thought-out normalization is needed. It is advisable to leave one cluster to escape. The ripening of the vine is early, long before the ripening of the berries.

Increased disease resistance: susceptibility to mildew about 2.0 - 2.5 points, to oidium 2.5 - 3.0 points. With three preventive treatments with systemic drugs, there are no diseases almost until the end of the season. From oidium, an additional (fourth treatment) is required in early August.

Frost resistance is very high, up to - 28 gr.s, winter hardiness is increased. In the central regions of Ukraine, vine bushes overwinter without shelter. The preservation of the kidneys after -28 degrees from frost is up to 80%.

Stepchild-forming ability is average, but the first stepchildren are very powerful. It is desirable to grow on arched formations to reduce the vertical polarity of the shoots. Shoots erect, powerful. Stepchildren are practically not productive.

Pruning of fruit vines is medium for 6-8 buds or long for 10-16 buds. With long pruning, the clusters are very large. Nomination by shoots at the rate of 20-25 shoots per adult bush.

The yield of grapes is very high, up to 16.8 t/ha on trellis formation.  On arched structures, the yield is up to 25-30 t/ha. The average yield per bush on trellis formations is 17 kg, on arched ones - up to 25 gk per bush.

The grape variety is well preserved on the bush, without damage and cracking. During winter storage, it lies until March-April without special methods and means at a constant temperature of 3-5 gr.s. Transportability is very good.

It is advisable to grow the Carbonado grape variety on its roots or a weak-medium rootstock. Rooting cuttings are excellent. Drought tolerance is quite high.

Ampelographic description:

The crown of the young shoot is open, green-pink. The first young leaves are white-green, have a slight cobweb pubescence and a slight bronze tint.

The leaf is large, rounded or pentagonal, five-lobed, medium dissected, dark green. The pubescence is weak or medium, felt. The petiole notch is open, V-shaped. One-year matured shoot is brown with dark knots. The surface is smooth, without pubescence.

The cluster is large, elegant, conical, loose or medium density. The bunch often has one or two wings. Berry - large and very large, round or oval, black, with a strong spring. Berry weighing 10-12 grams. The pulp is dense, medium-juicy. The taste is simple and harmonious. Sugar is good, 19-22%.
